RAID: "OECD complaint filed against Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) regarding DRC mining communities"
The complaint under the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises concerns the impoverished population of Kisankala village and Lenge village, which are located on two mining concessions in Katanga province. Kisankala’s only clean water system has been in disrepair for over 10 months. There are also underlying problems such as claims concerning resettlement and compensation, the alleged absence of environmental and social monitoring, and the alleged behaviour of private security guards. The complaint does not relate to the Serious Fraud Office’s on-going investigation into the activities of ENRC or its subsidiaries in Kazakhstan and Africa.

RAID, FIDH, ACIDH: "Illegal demolitions in DRC – George Forrest International refuses compensation for dispossessed villagers, say NGOs"
In 2009, the Compagnie Minière du Sud Katanga (CMSK), which operates the Luiswishi mine in DRC, supported and participated in the demolition of hundreds of houses in the vicinity of the mine. More than 500 homes were crushed by bulldozers belonging to CMSK and several people were injured. Entreprise Générale Malta Forrest, a subsidiary of the Belgian group George Forrest International, had a 60% shareholding in CMSK. NGOs express their deep disappointment that an attempt by the Belgian National Contact Point for the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterpresises to negotiate compensation for about 500 families has ended in failure.

RAID, MiningWatch Canada, EarthRights International: "Rape victims must sign away rights to get remedy from Barrick"
Following years of denial, Barrick Gold is implementing a remedy program for victims of rape by employees of its Porgera Joint Venture (PJV) mine in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Remedies available include "access to counselling" and "access to healthcare". In order to receive a remedy package, women must enter into an agreement in which "the claimant agrees that she will not pursue or participate in any legal action against PJV, Porgera Remediation Framework Association Inc. or Barrick in or outside of PNG".

RAID, ASADHO, ACIDH, CCIJ, L'Entraide missionaire, Global Witness: "No justice in Canada for Congolese massacre victims as Canada’s Supreme Court dismisses leave to appeal"
The Canadian Association Against Impunity expresses its profound disappointment at the refusal of the Supreme Court of Canada to hear the case against Anvil Mining. It is unacceptable that in 2012, victims are still unable to hold Canadian companies accountable in Canadian courts, for their alleged involvement in serious human rights violations committed abroad.

"The London Stock Exchange – A haven for laundered conflict assets?"
A RAID report catalogues the inadequacies of the London Stock Exchange's regulatory framework. The Central African Mining and Exploration Company plc (CAMEC) was allowed to trade and flourish on London’s junior Alternative Investment Market (AIM) despite its close links to Robert Mugabe's ZANU PF party (Zimbabwe), the dubious provenance of its Congolese mining assets and the unsavoury reputation of key business associates.
